Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is a dysfunction of the connective tissue that supports the arch of the foot. This dysfunction results in repetitive overloading of the fascia (a soft material that acts like a saran wrap around the muscles). Eventually, it will lead to small tears that ultimately result in scar tissue formation, inflammation, and pain felt on the bottom of the heel and/or along the bottom of the inside part of the foot. This condition is classically seen in people who run, walk, jump, or regularly wear unsupportive shoes like high heels or sandals. It is usually most severe with the first steps of the day or following a period of rest. This condition can be caused by poor function of the toes, feet, ankles, knees, or even hips.

What Are The Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?

  • Heel Pain
  • Foot Pain
  • Pain with the first step out of bed in the morning or after periods of rest
  • Pain that tends to get worse at night

Plantar Fasciitis Pain Is Most Often Felt:

  • As you take your first steps in the morning
  • When standing after sitting for long periods
  • While climbing stairs
  • During and immediately after exercising

How We Treat Plantar Fasciitis

The pain of Plantar Fasciitis is treated most effectively by correcting the biomechanical complications to reduce the persistent strain of the fascia. At Performance Health & Wellness we may use:

  • Active Release Techniques® (ART) to treat the soft tissues of the foot, the calf muscles, the muscles in the leg, and the hips.
  • Cold Laser Therapy to stimulate cells to produce more energy and promote healing.
  • Chiropractic Care to restore alignment and balance.

ART for Optimal Health

Active Release Techniques® (ART) are specialized movement-based massage techniques used to treat a spectrum of injuries of soft tissue. We believe in measurable results offered by ART for a variety of conditions. The entire team at Performance Health & Wellness are ART certified at the highest Level and Dr. Christian Barney is a lead instructor on the board of education for ART.
